The final
stop for Constance
& Firebug Leech was
Jacksonville, Florida on a trip over the last 56 years, which
the Reader will grand was phenomenal.
On May 3rd,
1901, Jacksonville, Florida a blaze stampeded across the city
leaving a 2 mile wide swath of destruction in its wake.
Historians describe it as the most destructive in Jacksonville
history.
Leech was
one of the few who died during the blaze. Miraculously,
only 7 people perished. It was later decided that he died
of fright. His wife Constance joined him two days
later. Her death described as exhaustion.
It brought
to a close an era of "Great Fires." And
laid the ground work for the Modern Times.
