Great Fire of Jacksonville

May 3, 1901 A.D.

The final stop for Constance & Firebug Leech was Jacksonville, Florida on a trip over the last 56 years, which the Reader will grand was phenomenal.

On May 3rd, 1901, Jacksonville, Florida a blaze stampeded across the city leaving a 2 mile wide swath of destruction in its wake.  Historians describe it as the most destructive in Jacksonville history.

Leech was one of the few who died during the blaze.  Miraculously, only 7 people perished.  It was later decided that he died of fright.  His wife Constance joined him two days later.  Her death described as exhaustion.

It brought to a close an era of  "Great Fires."  And laid the ground work for the Modern Times.
