Two hours into their labor, they had a large hold dug to reveal the lid of the chest and an enormous rusting lock.  Then they felt the rumbling ground and knew the waters were freed.

Flynn jumped into the hole to break the lock.  Water gushed in from all directions and rapidly rose.  There was no time left.

Lona later related the story to her grandson, Killian.

Y'll never seen anything like it, m'lad.  Your grandfather, God rest him, standin down in the hole working that lock for all he was worth.  And that chest not givin him an inch.

Meself leaning down into the hole.   Water all around, pouring in like Great Noah's Flood.  I've got a pail and am bailing to keep my husband alive.  Himself hollaring at the lock to give over its treasure.

The lock finally gave way.  Water spilled into the chest.  Flynn plunged both hands into the muck and yanked the Taps free.  Lona pulled him out.

They bolted from the castle with a wave of water after them.

The Flynns returned to the site often but were unable to continue their research.

The site was untouched until 1995 when Killian Flynn discovered his grandmother's notes.  Tho' Lona gave her grandson specific directions to the location of the Taps, he was never able to locate it.
